Take a look at the map: Focus apartment is truly at the centre of everything! Whether you want to explore or just relax in Zagreb, this is the ideal holiday acommodation. If you have planned your trip carefully in advance, you will find this is the perfect place to start. However, if you’re not sure what to do once you get to Zagreb, scroll past the map to see a few suggestions to get you on your way…
The Upper Town
This is the most “classic” tour: the oldest, historical part of Zagreb is easily reached from Focus, as you only need to walk the short distance to the city’s central square (Ban Jelačič Square) and then follow Tkalčićeva Street upwards to reach the Stone Gate, the last remaining gate of the 13th century fortifications. From there on, you will find yourself in the ancient streets of Gradec, one of two medieval towns that joined to form today’s Zagreb.
The Solar System
You probably didn’t know that, while in Zagreb, you can actually visit the entire Solar System! Only a few steps away from Focus apartment, in Bogovićeva, you will see a large brass ball sitting in the middle of the street. This is the “Grounded Sun”, the centerpiece of a unique sculptural installation known as Nine Views. The work of sculptor Ivan Kožarić, the installation models the entire Solar System, in proportion, with the Bogovićeva Street sculpture serving as the starting point. Since the distances from the Sun are also in scale, you might need a bike to visit the farthest planets, but if you have enough time and energy, this is a truly unique experience.
The Dead Poets’ Walk
Among other things, Zagreb is renowned for its numerous poets and writers, many of whom are immortalised on the city’s streets. If you are curious about writers lurking in Zagreb’s streets, Focus offers a charming, guided half-day excursion that will allow you to see Zagreb’s most famous dead poets, and provide you with all the information you might want about their lives and works. The tour will take you through all the most important parts of Lower and Upper town, and will, of course, provide you with information about the places we pass. It is possible to arrange a tour even if you are not staying at Focus apartment — just ask!
